An early Tuesday morning act of vandalism wasn’t the best way to kick off the week for Logos Bible Software, but a confession from the young man responsible for smashing one of the business’ windows has ended the week on a bright note–for all those involved.

On Tuesday morning, Logos Bible Software blogger, Jayson Bradley, joked on the company’s site about the act of vandalism, which was caught by the company’s surveillance camera. In the video, a young man, whose face is easily identifiable, throws a cinder block through a window of the company’s customer service center located at 1331 Commercial Street.

Senior Media Specialist Michael Haverluck said today that on Wednesday the 22-year-old man in the video called the company several times to try to make amends. Not only did he call several times, Haverluck said, but he was insistent on taking the matter right to the top, and spoke with Logos’ Executive Vice President Dan Pritchett. The young man confessed to the incident, Haverluck said, and said he did not specifically target the company.

“He called us three to five times and was very apologetic,” Haverluck said. “We were actually impressed with the way he handled himself. He wasn’t just trying to cover himself.”

Haverluck said the young man said he had been drinking that night and found the cinder block by a nearby business and randomly threw it through the Logos window. Haverluck said the Bellingham resident said he had never done anything similar before, and when a friend alerted him to the video and he saw that his face was clear in it he decided he wanted to make things right and make amends.

Haverluck said that although the company did not ask him to, the man would be writing a formal apology to the company to show his appreciation of how they have handled the situation, and will pay back the damages caused by the cinder block, estimated to be at least $400, as he can through his paycheck.

In return, Haverluck said, Logos will be calling the Bellingham Police to close the case, and Pritchett will be meeting with the young man to take him to lunch in appreciation for his confession and desire to make amends.

“We’re just happy with how everything turned out,” Haverluck said.

The video went viral, Haverluck said, and as a result the company’s blog got a lot of visits and sales of their new software product, Logos 4.5, have done well.
