Kodak introduces two new software products that will help office workers using Microsoft SharePoint environments gain efficiencies in sharing, viewing, editing and searching documents, as well as extending the benefits of SharePoint to include paper documents.
“KODAK Document Viewer Software and KODAK Scan and View Software enable enterprise organizations to use paper documents to trigger specific workflows, speed up existing processes and add more value to business operations. Web-based software programs make it easy to find, review, compare, annotate and scan documents from within SharePoint environments. Now, companies can better manage document-driven workflows such as invoice processing, contract management or new hire on-boarding,” the company informed.
“SharePoint adoption is clearly on the rise, with an estimated 100,000 server installations and 200 million client authorized licenses to-date, yet many businesses still search for organizational structure and management tools needed to take full advantage of this powerful system,” said Tim Mortenson, Worldwide Business Director, Software, Document Imaging, KODAK ’s Business Solutions and Services Group. “Kodak’s new software offerings enable users to more easily find, view and work with documents and metadata uploaded to SharePoint from any source, including paper documents, files and records.”
KODAK Document Viewer Software embeds an inline document preview function directly within SharePoint. A visual search function provides full document previews within search results on SharePoint. Document Viewer Software can display document previews in either thumbnail or full page format and users may zoom in and out or fit the document to the width of screen. Document previews are especially fast because KODAK ’s viewing software doesn’t need to wait for the entire document to be transmitted and has compatibility with more than 300 file types, allowing users to review virtually any file stored in SharePoint, even if the application associated with the file is not installed on the user’s computer or workstation.
KODAK Scan and View Software supports document scanning and image enhancement directly within SharePoint. The integrated document capture functionality makes it an ideal solution for ad-hoc document scanning to SharePoint and works well with KODAK ’s market-leading lineup of document scanners such as the KODAK SCANMATE i1120 Scanner or the KODAK i2400 Scanner. The software also provides support for TWAIN compliant capture devices.
Equally important, Scan and View Software extends the preview and search capabilities of the Document Viewer Software through several additional capabilities that operate seamlessly in SharePoint. An enhanced search function provides users with the ability to search for specific document metadata, yielding pinpointed search results. The software also works to improve collaboration and business workflow process with tools that enable users to annotate, stamp and highlight specific documents. Scan and View Software simplifies the time consuming task of reformatting files, with single-click tools that rearrange and remove pages, and split and merge documents. Users can edit and enhance documents in SharePoint environments with tools such as border removal, page de-skewing, and image cleanup.
KODAK Document Viewer and Scan and View Software support strategic business and IT priorities. Documents used with Document Viewer and Scan and View Software remain in SharePoint environments, creating a consistent and constant audit trail for paper-based documents. To minimize impact on network bandwidth, the document preview function runs completely in a web browser, eliminating the need for large file downloads and system memory for programs and applications. The software programs’ server-based installation also simplifies IT workload and maintenance.
Finally, the new KODAK Document Viewer and Scan and View Software are fully complementary to KODAK Capture Pro Software, which offers functionality that easily goes beyond ad hoc scanning and can automate metadata capture. Capture Pro Software is designed to work seamlessly with both SharePoint 2007 and 2010.
