My Health Direct Inc.’s software for emergency departments is now in use at every adult hospital in Milwaukee County.

The Brookfield company sells software that enables hospital emergency departments to schedule follow-up appointments for patients at community health centers.

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s hospitals in Milwaukee County began using the software this month under an agreement between My Health Direct and the Wisconsin Health Information Exchange.

The exchange is putting in place the first pieces of a system for exchanging electronic medical records among hospitals and clinics.

My Health Direct, formerly Global Health Direct, previously sold its software to individual hospitals. Its agreement with the Wisconsin Health Information Exchange will include all of the hospitals, excluding Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee County.

The company’s software also is being used by hospitals in Connecticut and Arizona, said Tom Reilly, vice president of My Health Direct.
