Tritech software system revolutionizes public safety with new computer-aided dispatch module at apco

July 31st, 2010

TriTech will be showcasing, VisiNet Advisor, its newest module within its VisiNet Command computer-aided dispatch solution at the APCO International Conference in Houston, August 1 through 3.

Currently in development and scheduled for general release in 2011, VisiNet Advisor will revolutionize public safety and truly change the way your communication center manages and processes information.

Through its computer-aided dispatch solution, Communications Center personnel manage a large amount of information – unit locations, unit statuses, incidents pending, active incidents, and other critical data which create a dynamic display of activity on their screens.

To help staff prioritize and process the information, TriTech’s VisiNet Advisor provides visual and audible notifications based on system, incident and unit events in the computer-aided dispatch system.

Simultaneously, Advisor provides recommendations for immediate action enabling staff to make fast and accurate decisions for efficient emergency response.

According to TriTech’s Director of Product Management, Carolyn McClain, “In these economic times, public safety staff are faced with increased demands – fewer personnel, increased workloads, and more general responsibilities that can be detrimental to their focus of providing swift and efficient emergency response.

We’ve developed VisiNet Advisor, specifically, to help staff process, prioritize and take action on the information coming into the center.

We are confident that your personnel will find VisiNet Advisor to be an invaluable complement to their computer-aided dispatch solution to make better decisions and take quicker actions.”

VisiNet Advisor concisely prioritizes and displays information and suggested actions in a cleanly formatted window within the computer-aided dispatch solution.

The dispatcher can immediately execute or clear the recommended action without leaving the Advisor window.

Through a simple-to-use configuration wizard, agencies can set up their notifications, distribution groups, trigger rules and commands to be executed based on your agency’s business rules.

This highly configurable module of the VisiNet Command computer-aided dispatch solution serves as an invaluable resource in providing an information management and decision support tool for dispatchers.

Aspera software available through the emc select program

July 31st, 2010

Aspera, Inc., creators of next-generation software technologies that move the world’s digital assets at maximum speed, today announced that its core transfer client, server and management software product line is now available through EMC® Select, a program which helps customers easily acquire components that comprise an information infrastructure.

Aspera software offers large productivity gains in the enterprise through the ability to access, manage and move large volumes of bulk data over global wide area networks (WANs), at unprecedented speeds and with extraordinary bandwidth control.

At the core of all Aspera products, is the patented fasp™ protocol – which handles all file transfers with the highest levels of performance and delivers full bandwidth utilization regardless of transfer distance and network conditions, unprecedented policy-based bandwidth control, as well as uncompromising data security and reliability.

Fasp is built upon a flexible, lightweight, embeddable and highly scalable software-only architecture.

Aspera software is capable of exceeding the WAN transfer performance and scalability limits of traditional CIFS and NFS protocols in network-attached storage (NAS) environments. On Linux and Windows platforms, this NAS limitation can be addressed by using EMC® Celerra® with MPFS (Multi-Path File System).

MPFS delivers high-performance read and write I/O of high-speed Aspera file transfers by using iSCSI or Fibre Channel protocols to directly access the backend storage subsystem.

In joint performance testing using Aspera software and EMC Celerra MPFS, large, multi-Gigabyte files and data sets were transferred at 3 Gbps over global WANs with worst-case Internet conditions (300 milliseconds round-trip time and 5% packet loss) – this is over 1000 times the speed of TCP-based transport protocols, such as FTP, HTTP, scp or rsync under the same conditions.

Running in conjunction with EMC Celerra, EMC CLARiiON®, and EMC Symmetrix® storage systems, Aspera enables the following data-moving applications to work at global distances over commodity IP networks: file transfer to, from and between cloud computing nodes, data collaboration and sharing, high-performance computing, user access to centralized storage, FTP replacement, data management, migration, synchronization, replication, disaster/recovery and more.

Aspera Products

The Aspera Enterprise Server is a universal file transfer server for gathering and serving up files, directories and large data sets with unrivalled performance and transfer concurrency.

The Aspera Connect Server adds a web front-end to the Aspera Enterprise Server and provides browser plug-in client architecture, making it the ideal solution for web applications and large user collaboration.

The Aspera Client and Point-to-Point desktop applications allow for transfer initiation and automation with Aspera servers.

Aspera Console is a web-based network-wide transfer management and monitoring interface; providing centralized control and visibility over a wide array of Aspera transfer nodes.

All products can be run standalone or integrated into third-party applications or products using the fasp SDK, a comprehensive software development kit providing web services, embedded native library, and browser based APIs.

“Aspera software seamlessly integrates with the EMC storage portfolio. Aspera’s fasp WAN performance truly complements the benefits of EMC storage,” said Matt Mainstruck, manager of the EMC Select Program. “We are excited to welcome Aspera to EMC Select.”

“Working with EMC, we can offer ultra-high speed file transfer and storage solutions that are capable of delivering unprecedented multi-Gbps movement of large data over global, wide area networks,” said Michelle Munson, Aspera president and co-founder. “For customers in many industries, this is a game-changing proposition, allowing them to move terabytes around the world in minutes, rather than days.”

Aspera client and server software solutions can be easily deployed on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux or Unix platforms.

Opera Mini hits one billion served per day benchmark

July 31st, 2010

The Opera Mini browser seems to have garnered a huge fan base among internet users since its January 2006 worldwide release. We do have statistical evidence on which to prop up that statement.

Opera Software has totted up the number of people served by the Opera Mini browser on July 25 to read at one billion users.

This gives the browser rightful entry into the ‘one billion served per day club’. Opera statistics claim that on July 25, the Opera Mini servers compressed over 11,500 pages per second before delivering content to handsets across the globe.

It’s the browser’s ability to enable quicker web access via data compression that makes it so popular among internet users.

“Crossing one billion pages views in a day is further proof that people desire the best Internet experience, no matter where they live or what device they use,” stated Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder, Opera Software, while remarking on this achievement.

The Opera Mini page view growth line is probably showing huge leaps on the graph with 100 million page views per day in June 2008 and 910 million page views per day on an average day last month. That’s an increase of over 161% as since June 2009.

Deltek maconomy selected by software provider quintiq

July 31st, 2010

Today announced that Quintiq, a leading provider of advanced planning software, is implementing Deltek’s Maconomy X1 product to create business value for its global organization.

With subsidiaries spread around the globe, Quintiq needed a project-based, financially sound business solution to consolidate its engagements all over the world in a single system.

Based on 20 years of exclusive focus on professional services companies, the Maconomy X1 solution integrates project management, job costing and advanced business reporting in a single integrated solution.

The second-quarter 2010 win adds another prominent name to the company’s growing list of Dutch clients.

Global reach requires powerful business consolidation

Quintiq was looking for an enterprise-wide solution that could provide them with a powerful engine for financial consolidation.

As a global company, Quintiq found it challenging for headquarters to gather data from all subsidiaries in time to make swift decisions based on facts rather than yesterday’s data.

The Maconomy X1 solution offers multicompany capabilities that are an excellent fit with Quintiq’s business requirements.

“Maconomy basically fulfilled all our wishes for how we want to run our business. The strong intercompany functionality in Maconomy means that we’ll always know what’s going on in our subsidiaries around the world.

Since everybody in the company will work in the system, it will be much easier for us to consolidate all business data just seconds after they have been entered into Maconomy somewhere in the world,” says Claudio Arts, Finance Manager at Quintiq.

Ability to analyse valuable business data – in real-time

One of Quintiq’s key success criteria was to gain insight into revenue and costs across all of its offices worldwide – in real-time. They wanted the ability to gather and analyse business data by country as well as by business unit.

This process is made possible by Maconomy’s multidimensional structure, which allows businesses to structure their data by setting up relevant business dimensions.

In a rapidly changing business world, this will make it easier for Quintiq to analyse its business data at all times.

“We are delighted to welcome Quintiq as a client. References from some of our key global clients showed Quintiq what kind of value our solution can create for them on a global level.

Maconomy solutions have more than 20 years of experience optimising the business processes of professional services companies, and we look forward to helping Quintiq streamline its operations now and in the future,” says Managing Director Henk Jan Onstwedder, Deltek Maconomy Benelux.

Software security brand to sponsor Boro?

July 31st, 2010

Was speaking with a marketing person from a top tier-1 security software brand on Friday and somehow convinced them to sponsor Boro for a month.

They thought it represented good value. Told them approx £50,000/month, based on what has been discussed on this board. Hope this figure was about right?

I guess if you sponsor during a month when Boro are on the TV a couple of times, you’d be quids in!

Let’s see what feedback they get from MFC. They are going to make contact this coming week.

New 888-software powered bingo site

July 31st, 2010

Bingo Me Happy.com is owned by UK firm 15 Marketing Limited

888.com’s Gibraltar-licensed bingo software provider Brigend Limited has reported the launch of another of its clients, branded Bingo Me Happy.com.

The new site is owned by Hertfordshire, UK-based 15 Marketing Limited.

Managing director Ben Star says that the company is running an active affiliate marketing program, and preferred to spend risk-free money on affiliates instead of high-risk money on diverse internet marketing projects that could easily produce ridiculous cost per actions and hardly any income.

“Keeping 70 percent of lots is far better than keeping one hundred percent of nothing,” said Star in unveiling an affiliate program that proposes 50 percent commissions, settling down to a minimum of 30 percent once the launch phase had been completed.

“Bingo Me Happy.com’s affiliate costs are purely a percentage of the revenues, so by adopting an aggressive program there is still zero risk of making a loss,” he said. “We will happily put our revenue share offers down on paper and sign them.”
