Famitsu has released a report stating that since November 2006, Sony’s PlayStation 3 has now sold over 5 million units in Japan. The exact number — as of April 11th — is 5,001,598. The biggest title to land on the PS3 in 2010, thus far in Japan, has been Yakuza 4, which continues to sell well and looks to far outperform the sales of Yakuza 3. Since the PS3 Slim launch, sales for the system have increased worldwide and it continues to see shortages in North America.

The best-selling titles in Japan for the system are Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which sold 706,460 units, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII selling 1,883,828 copies, and Sega’s Yakuza 4, currently sitting at 526,093 units. With 2010 still young, sales for the PS3 should continue to stay strong and continue to sellout worldwide.
