Software Group, Inc. /quotes/comstock/15*!jdas/quotes/nls/jdas (JDAS 29.30, -0.05, -0.17%) , The Supply Chain Company(R), today announced that its strategic relationship with TransactionTree will help retailers become more environmentally friendly while improving the quality of data they receive at checkout.

TransactionTree’s advanced solution offers paperless receipts, also known as electronic receipts. This innovative feature will be available to retailers later this year that license or upgrade to an upcoming release of JDA(R) Point-of-Sale. More than 100 leading retailers leverage JDA’s point-of-sale solutions to carry out corporate strategies with enterprise-wide visibility into customer information and purchase history across sales channels.

“Giving shoppers the option of receiving an electronic receipt via e-mail will ensure that retailers are obtaining more accurate consumer information, such as recent purchases, returns and contact information,” said Wayne Usie, JDA’s senior vice president, retail.

“The data accrued at checkout will help companies better understand their customers, driving improved merchandise and inventory management, pricing and promotions strategies and service levels. TransactionTree’s electronic-receipt feature will also appeal to both companies and retailers that are environmentally conscious, as well as help businesses cut down on the cost and use of paper.”

Electronic receipts give shoppers the ability to view, file and track their purchases online. They also provide customers with full return privileges in any store across a participating retailer’s chain without having to present a paper receipt.

“TransactionTree strives to incorporate new eco-practices into everyday consumer activities,” said Jason Shapiro, chief executive officer of TransactionTree, Inc.

“Partnering with JDA will aid retailers in exceeding current environmental standards to become greener. Our goal is to improve existing store systems, such as JDA’s Point-of-Sale application, by using modern technology and trends to innovate, reduce costs and set market standards.”

TransactionTree will demonstrate its electronic-receipt system in the Innovation Zone at JDA’s annual global user conference, FOCUS 2010, in Las Vegas, May 16-19.

JDA Green Increases Environmental Awareness

JDA’s efforts to become greener extend beyond its alliance with TransactionTree. In 2009, the Company launched its global JDA Green program to become a more environmentally sustainable organization. JDA Green is designed to help recognize opportunities for efficiency and sustainability, foster employee awareness and accountability of environmental issues, as well as implement and maintain programs that support JDA’s carbon footprint reduction goal.

Through JDA Green, 1,700 trees were planted in the Brazilian rainforest and more than 50 percent of the Company’s printers were converted to duplex, leading to a 14 percent reduction in paper purchases. JDA Green teams are also monitoring 12 recycling programs worldwide and are helping JDA reduce its overall power consumption and travel miles.
