Software company WasteShield has launched its flagship product, WasteShield Home Premium for the domestic market. There has been an increasing adoption of green IT policies in the business world over the last few years, with many larger companies adopting power management software to limit electricity waste with some prominent companies saving in excess of $1million. This trend for energy conservation in IT is now beginning to filer into the consumer market. With 22% of people in the UK and 37% of people in the USA failing to regularly power down their PC’s, and the average user being able to save around £35 annually, massive global savings can be achieved.

The British firm has developed an advanced Artificial Intelligence platform which it has applied to the global problem of IT energy waste. The WasteShield platform has the ability to learn a users unique behavior patterns and manage various power states on the fly. Using this approach the company believes it has solved the problem of energy efficiency Vs user productivity and annoyance. With typical savings of over £35 per computer (mid range specification) every year, they are hoping to address the energy waste problem that costs businesses and households hundreds on millions of pounds globally every year.

WasteShield have decided to take a holistic approach to saving the public money on their electricity bills. By using detailed analysis of hardware and user behavior the software learns an individuals user habits and will make informed decisions about power use in real-time. The idea is that instead of just saving money when you accidentally leave your computer on for an extended period of time e.g. over night, a user will make multiple savings as the software learns to recognize when they take a break, have some lunch or leave their computer untended for any reasonable amount of time. This application of the technology will integrate heating, air conditioning and any electrical devices plugged into the mains.
